Tales from the Skeleton Tree

A poem

Perched in the graveyard,
a winged enigma swoops in
from the outstretched bone
of the skeleton tree.

On this starry night,
shrouded by tombs,
a furious yellow
glares through his
chestnut cloak like
the crescent moon.

Unbeknownst,
in the shadows,
a black omen lurks
ready for the war,
crowing for battle
eleven times
‘nevermore.’

Pondering his next move,
our red-tailed menace
opts for flight over fight,
vanishing from sight and
back to the skeleton tree.

Biding his time,
denizen of the sky,
lonely but free.
